Default 14" Alpha Male from Greg @ LAA's Personal Breeding Group

Last December I was fortunate enough to acquire Greg's personal breeding group of mobas. He needed more space for his business, and I was adding a 180g aquarium, so everything kind of clicked. I count myself VERY fortunate to have gotten the opportunity. Here's my pride and joy...Big John:

I miss him, but glad to see him happy in the larger tank.

Very pretty. May just be the pic, or the fact that I'm not familiar with these. It appears to have a concave belly? What makes this a quality fish? As in what do you look for? Color? Stripe width? Apparently the length of a "trailer" is a quality you look for. Can you please tell me the scientific name for this? I'm new and I know there's all different kinds. I will probably be asking a million questions to everyone :/

Just curious...

Have you ever pulled a type on him. If that's a standard 180 gallon aquarium I find it hard to believe he's 14".
The only reason I ask is because I HAD a colony of Samazi that had been in the States for almost 8 years before I got them and the male was just a touch under 13", Actualy exact he was 12.875"
He's absolutely beautiful though.

Thank you! Kaia, Greg may be better able to answer your questions than I can. He has a flat belly...it's just the angle of the pics. To me what makes him so special is his size, his long trailers, the boldness and depth of his color, the sharpness of his bars, and so on.
