Default breeding of large colony

Hello,
i have 16 frontosa that i get in 2 batches
their size range from 10 cm to 20 cm
i read that i cannot breed while i have many male, is this right?
i have a free 500 litre, 1.5 m long aquarium that i will use for breeding them and give the rest to a friend
how many i should use and what is the ratio for males to females?

i will try to vent them when i start moving to the breeding aquarium and sure i will need your help soon
