Default How long do you let your females hold?

Hey guys, well my group of moba's and kitumba's are all starting too spawn fairly frequently now. I'm still having some troubles with fertilisation, but i wanted too know how long everyone waits before they strip their females. If you could fill out the poll but also let everyone know some of your success that would be great as i think it would help a lot of people.

I picked 7-11 days.

I usually strip day 10 sometimes a little earlier.....make sure they have heads and tails.
Then your less likely to have problems with losing fry.

Thanks Steve, I know you have had great success in letting your girls hold. Big influence in what i do but it just seems everytime i try let my girls hold they only last about 4 days at the best. Maybe it's something to do with you have a larger tank and more places for females too hide?

I'm picking 1-3 as that has been my approach mostly, I've tried letting girls hold but they have lost it soon after. My success rate hasn't been good so far. Probably why i started the thread.

I strip most of mine pretty early compared to others. Last hold was at 4 days but normally not even that long

I let my female hold for more then 3+ weeks... I didn't want her to release the fry in the 180 so I caught her and released the fry in my 10 gallon.

For my kitumba and moba...as long as possible probably 10-21 days.
For my kapampa about 2-3 days if they have not eaten the eggs yet by the third (for times that I did not notice they have spawned) I strip the female right away. My kapampas are egg eaters

I voted "don't strip at all"... I either strip for fry at full term, or let them release the fry in the main tank.

I'm referring to my Kigs.... my Kits can't seem to get it going, I believe it's because of my very male heavy ratio If they did though, I would strip them around day 6 considering the circumstances.

Nice poll!

Here are the results for my last 6 spawns:

4 days held, 15 stripped 8 survived to 1"
2 days held, 17 stripped 10 survived to 1"
2 days held, 21 stripped (just stripped yesterday) 12 didn't make it through the night
2 days held, 7 stripped all had odd white spots when stripped and died quickly
1 day held, 8 stripped all had odd white spots when stripped and died quickly
2 days held, 3 stripped didn't make it one day

I should note that I have been trying a different tumbling method than I used previously. I have much better luck with the other tumbling method. I am still fine tuning my current method. I think I am having fertization problems on some of the spawns. The eggs look pretty bad sometimes when I strip. I have tried to let them hold a couple of other times and didn't make it past four days.
