Default My New Mpimbwes

I just got 4 Mpimbwe fry from Doug at reservestockcichlids.com. They look really great with good color. The cell pics don't show the color that well. I am pleased with them.

the 3rd and 4th pic show what I think may be some mooning. Since they are only about an inch long I wonder if this normal and will darken with age?

Start feeding them spirulina flakes. That helps out a lot with mooning

I am currently feeding them spirulina. But I thought mooning was genetic how does food help?

Does it look like mooning or just light spots since they haven't fully colored yet?

The mooning is not that bad.
I am pretty sure it will fill in as they grow.
Spirulana is a good idea and what ever pellet you feed just make sure it is a brand with a good reputation.

Thanks Forest Cat. I am feeding them a sinking pellet food with spirulina. It was recommended to me by a LFS owner. he said he feeds it to his fry but I can't remember the name right now for the life of me.

You have a nice young colony. May I know why you got only four? What is the size of your tank?
