I usually wait at least 5 day minimum. Fungus is a killer. the slime mouth from the parent, helps keep fungus away.

Yep. I know that for sure now. Little tail and head form on day 5-6. I will always wait until then at minimum from now on.

I think you answered your own question. 7 fry out of 40 eggs is not a very good survival rate. Slime in the mommas mouth is the best anti fungus medicine. Nature always does it better. I have tried stripping earlier and lost eggs within a few days. When I strip at the 7 to 10 mark my survival rate is about 99 percent.
