Default Male selective of females spawning

Hello everyboby. My WC Moba male (1) is about 8" big. My females (12) 6 to 7". I had 2 spawns so far since i bought them in November 2012. I have 2 females with tub down and 1 who had a big tube like she just laid eggs and it is going getting smaller, so i dont know if she spawned. The male is not that agressive at all. He is chasing though. I have fry from a previous spawn and that female has tube town and the two of them are close most of the time. My observation make me ask the queation: can male be selective of which females he spawn with.

If their tube's down and no one bothers him, he doens't care. So anyswer is, no he's not selective. Good luck and keep us posted.

If a female is willing, chances are that he won't pass up the opportunity to spawn. Hopefully all goes good for you.

Cyphos are harem keepers. Usually, the male will mate with many females. I would recommend keeping the ratios as it were till there was sufficient proof that the Male wasnt doing its job. Introducing another Male would mean re-establishing hierarchy again. No need, if things are OK at the moment. Introducing another Male makes sense only if :
1. The Male wasnt fertilizing the eggs.
2. The Male was old and wasnt interested or was incapable.

Female competition is necessary. Made a post of it recently in some thread. If a female does not spawn, it knows it will be removed from the hierarchy by others. Competition induces females to spawn regularly.

For filtration i have a diy wet and dry filter and 2 holes in the tank. The pump is 5000 L/H but i reduce the flow to meet requirements. Also i have a airstone to provide some oxigen. As introducing a nother male, it is a big no. Only 2 WC moba male in cape town that i know of and it is very costly to buy one that size. I was only thinking of selling some females to downsize the colony.

Default only 2 WC moba males in cape town

That would be the first thing l do, but with only 2 males in cape town it is not posible. And when i say 2 males i mean literaly. If i was in the USA it would have been differant.

I just watch my smallest female and the male spawned. Great to see. I didn't notice her tube down at all. The other female's tubes are still down. So im not sure what up with them. He is certainly doing his job. I havent been successfull with my previous spawns. Lets hope i have success this time. I thank all here at Cyphos for your support and help. Thank you all.
