This is a interesting post really. Different people have opted for different options. Let me look at it from a different perspective, a photographic perspective.

Most people have opted for Black. Why ? Lets analyze the reasons :
1. Black is a color which is nonreflective. What this means is that it wont alter the actual color of your fish !!!! Unless you change other settings or options.
2. Black gives a perception of depth and infinity. What this means is that your fish will appear as if its deep inside the lake instead of a small tank.
3. A single Black BG gives the maximum contrast provided your fish isnt completely black too. This means your fish photos/looks come out sharper & better because one way a camera focuses is by the contrast method. It also means that opposite colors like white or lighter colors come out better at the right exposure. When incident light from the lighting system in your tank falls on your fish, the light is reflected. Which then enters your eyes/camera. The light which reaches your eyes/camera is that reflected only from the fish and not the BG which is black ...... so your fish & rocks & DFs stand out.

Enough lessons for the day

We shall see, planning on moving the Kit's in Sat afternoon. I will post pictures.
I also have dark small boulders kinda of a granite color. The lighting is from AI the Sol Blue model with the 40 deg center lens change over to 70 deg. I run the Blue and Royal Blue LED's stronger than the white to simulate deep water. I'm using a Neptune Apex junior with the VDM module to control the AI SOL.

I use black backgrounds on all of my tanks. I like the depth it gives as well and the intensity to other colors. Helps when taking pictures as well.
