I have lost 3 females to this type of infection in the past year. I was told its called egg bound. Whats the cure :( :( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...2/PDR_0017.jpg Here is a close up of the infection. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...2/PDR_0019.jpg |
Wow that hurts!
It is hard to tell from the pic...but it looks to me like her tube is sticking out...maybe eggbound? But I was not aware that condition was contageous. Have you added anything new to the tank? Other fish, docorations etc? Have you fed them anything out of the norm? or live? Either way, I would say start adding aquarium salt and performing increased water changes. Keep it as clean as possible. Hoefully someone else will have more experience with this problem and how to treat it. |
Let me clarify a little, my last female i lost was somtime in january 04. and the others were last year around this time. I have not changed there diet or added fish, decor etc..I bought this colony in june 03. and all the deaths i had were to this "egg bound". Could it be a bad group or somthing im doing wrong. I do weekly water changes etc. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hey Bill!
I've never had this problem but I did a little research and found out a couple of possible causes of egg bound females. These two causes were found while research was being done on Trout so I'm not sure if it would apply to Fronts but one reason was the water being too soft and the other was the absence of natural minerals(unspecified) that the fish needed. I think the Melafix and maybe some Epsom salts should help to heal and minimize infection. Sorry to hear this buddy! Mike :( |

IMO its egg bound...

Bill,
So sorry to hear this. I had a Mpimbwe that looked about the same as yours. I had no idea what it was. I stepped up the water changes to 40% a day. She cleared up in a little over a week. HTH |
She is very active right now. i am not going to feed for a couple of days. I am treating her with melafix and epson salt and of course daily water change. Any one know how egg bound happens?
